In 1994, there was an enormous flood from the Okmulgee River in Macon. Downtown suffered damages to many businesses. Not only were businesses damaged, but the flood filled the drinking water facility with clay. This resulted in the city of Macon being with no water for almost 3 weeks. Highway 16 had a great deal to do with this. On one side there was a levi and the other highway 16. This left no room for the water to spread out creating a bottle neck, sending water throughout downtown Macon.
